Budapest M3 metro back in service from Monday: here is the timetable

From Monday afternoon, 20 March, trains will be running on the M3 metro line again for the first time in a long time. However, there are a few important things passengers will need to be aware of.

Although the whole line will be back in service on Monday, this does not mean that metro trains will stop at every station. It will also be important for passengers to be aware that trains will not be running every day, vg.hu warns.

Two newly renovated stations (Arany János Street and Nyugati railway station) will be opened on Monday, but the renovation of the M3 metro line is not yet complete. Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square remain a construction zone, therefore trains will not stop at these stations.

Bus timetable changes in Budapest

For those who would like to stop at one of the closed stations, replacement buses and other means of transport will still be available. However, there will be a number of changes here too. BKK has compiled a list of the changes that have already come into force from Saturday 18 March:

• North Pest: Bus 122 is replaced by bus 122E between Káposztásmegyer and Újpest-városkapu. The bus will use a new route, via Megyeri Road and Külső Szilágyi Road, with fewer stops.
• Hungária Ringroad: Buses 15 and 115 merge and operate under the number 15 between Boráros Square and Gyöngyösi Street M. It is important to note that the route of the bus has changed. According to BKK, the line in the direction of Gyöngyösi Street follows a faster route along Közraktár Street – Fővám Square – Vámház Boulevard instead of Bakáts Street – Lónyay Street. It stops at Boráros Square H (Közraktár Street), Zsil Street, Czuczor Street and Fővám Square. In addition, buses will run on Váci Street instead of Bulcsú Street – Lehel Street – Lehel Square in the direction of Boráros Square, and will stop at Lehel Square M on Váci Street (the stop of the current metro replacement bus). Dagály Street can be reached by the trolleybus 79, which is now also running on the weekends. From 18 March, the trolleybus will also stop at Göncz Árpád City Centre M (Esztergom Road). Tram 1M will continue to run between Bécsi Street-Vörösvári Street and Népliget, and will later change its sign to 1A. Bus 109 stops running: instead, you can travel with bus 9, trams 17, 19 and 41, and HÉV H5. Tram 2M changes to 23, trolleybus 72M to 72, trolleybus 79M to 79 and trolleybus 83M to 83.
• South Pest: Bus 23 changes to 224, and its route has been extended to Szentlőrinci Road. Bus 23 changes to 224, and its route has been extended to Szentlőrinci Road. Bus 23E now runs under the sign 223E, while 245M runs under 255E. Bus 199 has been replaced by bus 268.

This is how trains will operate on the M3 metro line

In addition to the fact that metro trains will not stop at all stations, it is important to keep in mind that it will not be possible to travel on the metro line during weekends. On the weekends, trains will only run between Göncz Árpád City Centre and Újpest Centre. Between Göncz Árpád City Centre and Kőbánya-Kispest, passengers can take the M3 replacement bus. On weekends, Lehel Square and Nagyvárad Square can also be reached by the M3 replacement buses. Therefore, the M14 and M30 replacement buses will not operate. The buses 34 and 106 will run to Lehel Square instead of Göncz Árpád City Centre, as they do on weekdays.
